Norfolk, the fourth-largest county in England, is an area that is proud of its heritage, independence and landscapes. Much of the splendid architecture that characterizes this county dates from a medieval England that counted Norfolk among its most prosperous and important regions. In addition to its links with northern Europe, Norfolk's medieval prestige led to the building of some of the finest churches and other architectural monuments in the land.
However, for many people the glorious countryside is what makes Norfolk stand out from the rest. A fabulously rolling landscape gently unfolds over the Norfolk Broads, broken only by a peppering of ancient churches, quaint and pretty villages and, of course, the famous windmills.
Norfolk also has plenty to offer for outdoor enthusiasts. The perfect terrain for both hiking and cycling is matched only by the lakes and rivers that provide plenty of opportunity for water-based activities, whether you are interested in canoeing, sailing or a more relaxing river cruise. On the other hand, you could always choose to sit back and relax on one of the many glorious beaches in the county.
Norfolk certainly has something for everyone, making it the ideal destination for a family holiday. For the kids there are plenty of fun options, from great zoos and museums to theme parks and horse riding. For the adults, the nightlife, with its fine restaurants and buzzing bars and pubs, will not disappoint either. With everything that it has to offer, Norfolk is a region that is most definitely worth exploring.
