Anyone familiar with the Lake District and its incredible beauty will be aware of the popularity of the area, particularly during the summer months. St. John's Vale, to the east of Keswick, is a lesser known gem that is quieter than the more well known areas of the Lake District and the fells that surround it are not visited as often as others in the region.

This is an ideal place to find a cottage to stay in for a quiet break, where you can explore the countryside and the local attractions at your leisure and return to the cottage furnished with all the comforts of home. Threlkeld village, in the shadow of Blenathra and St. John's in the Vale, can be found in the valley, surrounded by some of Britain's highest peaks. These villages provide ideal places for keen walkers and photographers to use as a base for a welcome break.

There are many attractions to visit in the surrounding area and opportunities to participate in the activities on offer. Water activities and fishing are offered at Ullswater to the east, Keswick and Derwentwater to the west, or Thirlmere to the south. Keswick golf club is not far away and Threlkeld is on the Workington to Sunderland Coast to Coast cycling route. The disused railway line between Threlkeld provides an ideal route for walkers or cyclists to use to see some of the countryside.

The village has two pubs where visitors can relax and learn more about the local history from the villagers, or if you want to go further afield for your pint, there is another at Scales.
